EpData is the platform created by Europa Press to facilitate the use of public data by journalists, with the aim of both enriching news with graphics and context analysis and verifying the figures offered by various sources. The database is maintained by a multidisciplinary team of computer scientists and journalists who use new technologies and data analysis to improve the efficiency of data consumption and find relevant and informative patterns in the data.

Main products and services:

Based on data from EpData, a data visualization tool has been created that allows the creation of automatically updated graphics. They have also created another application for templates creation that intersperse these graphics with dynamic texts generated from the database.

Key to success:

The use of new technologies to improve reuse efficiency and journalistic interpretation of the growing volume of data generated by public bodies.

Growth:

The project is funded by Google's Digital News Initiative and is part of Europa Press's commitment to data journalism.

Future plans:

Continue integrating new sources of information, improve the possibilities of visualization and involve more actors that use the tool.
