According to the Law on the Re-use of Information in the Public Sector, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has launched the "AEMET Open Data" download center, which allows the dissemination and re-use of the meteorological and climatological data provided by the agency.

Currently, the data produced and guarded by AEMET are an important resource to stimulate the knowledge economy and the information society. In this way, the openness of data collected by AEMET facilitates the circulation of information to the main agents of the re-using community (companies, administrations and citizens), and boosts the economic growth, the social commitment and the transparency.

The Meteorological Agency's system provides open access to data published according to the National Interoperability Scheme in the field of eGovernment. The available data are offered in two ways: on the one hand, access for the general public who, through friendly interfaces, have the opportunity to download the data of the entity. On the other hand, the access to developers, through an API REST, who can download the data from the Annex II of AEMET's resolution of 30 December 2015.

Among the data available for their re-use, AEMET Open Data facilitates the download of information from a large number of sensors and intelligent devices located throughout the

national territory. Thanks to the agency's new system, now it is possible to access data in real time and also apply large data processing techniques (big data) to detect hidden patterns of behavior.

In this way, AEMET reinforces its commitment to the openness of public data to meet the demands of citizens, public or private entities and companies. In this context, the state agency organizes next December 13, in its institutional headquarters, an event where different aspects related to the openness and re-use of data will be addressed. All interested in attending must register previously sending an email to opendata@aemet.es.
