The European Data Portal has published its 2.0 version, with a more user-friendly and intuitive design, which provides new contents and features. Thanks to the suggestions and comments given by the users after the launch of version 1.0 of the portal in February 2016, the open data platform has continuously enriching and optimizing its services in order to become a reference point within the international open data sector.

What are the main new features?

  • New design of the homepage with a new menu structure and a more user-friendly interface.
  • New languages in the portal, which is currently available in all 24 official languages from the European Union.
  • New datasets: the European catalogue is harvesting more than 600,000 datasets.
  • New functionalities on the Metadata Quality Assessment dashboard including a download function and information on licence quality.
  • Responsive design so the portal allows users to seamlessly use the portal on each device.
  • New faceted search function to localize news and cases where public information is re-used.
  • New open data use cases with more than 160 European examples.

These enhancements in the European Data Portal add to the ongoing work of the pan-European initiative to promote the openness and re-use of public sector information in the EU. A task that not only includes consultancy when defining and implementing open data strategies; EDP also publishes studies and reports on different key aspects of the sector and organizes workshops in different countries to explain the benefits of open data and help strengthen the networks among the policy makers in Europe.
