The open data group from the Local Entities Network for Transparency and Citizen Participation, included in the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of Spain (FEMP), create a task force to continue its work of identifying datasets that facilitate to homogenize the publication of open data and its management.

On this occasion, they look for 20 new dataset to join to the 20 already published in the FEMP Open Data Guide 2017, whose aim was to disseminate guidelines and recommendations to facilitate data opening by public administrations and encourage their reuse. It should be noted that 11 of these datasets were previously included in the Technical Standard UNE 178301: 2015, published by AENOR, which standardizes its publication (here you can read an analysis of these datasets). The datasets include public contracts, traffic situation, budgets, cultural agenda or data related to air quality.

On April 10h, the task force that will define the new datasets met in an open session where attendees had the opportunity to contribute with their vision and define the next steps. This task force is made up of local entities, universities, the ASEDIE association, freelancers and entrepreneurs, companies such as Populate, and institutions such as Medialab Prado or Red.es, among others. During this session, the attendees could also know the promotion work carried out through different congresses, courses and presentations.

Now, the following steps are:

  • Until April 23th, citizens can propose new datasets that they consider of interest through this document. Each proposal must include a description or explanation detailing the expected benefit.
  • Between the 24th and the 26th of April, citizens could vote to select the 20 new datasets that will be added to the existing ones.
  • On Friday, April 27th, the different datasets will be distributed among the members of the task force and those citizens who wish to contribute to this initiative.
  • Between April 28 and May 16, it is time for analysis and definition work, following the same guidelines already used by the FEMP in 2017, unifying all the information.

As a result, a total of 40 dataset will be defined in the month of July. In addition, an executive summary of the FEMP Open Data Guide will be translated into other language, to facilitate its dissemination. The objective is to help those municipalities, Spanish and foreign, that wish to prepare and publish their own datasets in a simple and effective way, driving their reuse.
