OPEN EXPO 2017, a meeting point for open technologies

This Thursday, June 1, sees the start in Madrid of the fourth edition of the Open Expo 2017, Fair and Annual Congress for FLOSS and Open World Economy (Open Data and Open Innovation). As we announced in the portal, the event is dedicated to disseminating and evaluating the trends of Open Source & Free Software and this year plans to bring together 120 speakers, 200 companies and more than 3,000 professionals among companies and institutions, open source developers, hackers, experts, suppliers and users of all levels.

Open Expo 2017 offers an exhibition area - which includes Business Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Clustering & Grid, CMS, suppliers in the open source ecosystem, the latest in Business Security, IOT, Network Management, Web Hosting - and a separate congress section, where there will be lectures, workshops, success stories, round tables, demonstrations, experiences and reflections from outstanding leaders of technology and various activities in the world of free technologies.

In this edition, Open Expo 2017 is oriented to the new challenges of Open Source and Digital Transformation. How open source technology helps modernize the different areas in companies and showing the way to digital transformation of business is one of the commitments of this edition. Open data and the modernization of public administrations through ICTs also have their space in this congress. In particular, Aleida Alcaide, General Secretary for Digital Administration of the Ministry of Finance and Public Function, will speak about the Aporta Initiative (datos.gob.es) in a paper in which she will describe pioneering initiatives to improve public policies and empower citizens, using free solutions and favouring the reuse of their applications.

The organization of OpenExpo has been supported by Audrey Tang (@audreyt), the world's first digital minister who has revolutionized the sector, and who is resolutely committed to the network becoming more collaborative and to government transparency. As part of this event, Tang offered a webinar several weeks ago in which she gave a technical presentation on how Sandstorm.io is used in the Government of Taiwan, an open source web solution for productivity, based on Linux containers.

Regarding the most outstanding speakers, this year will enjoy the presence at Open Expo 2017 of experts such as Chema Alonso, CDO of Telefónica; Javier García, IT Solutions Services director of REPSOL; Maribel de La Vega, CIO of Liberty Seguros; Andrés Jiménez, PC Components CTO, Yuri Fernández, Communications Lead Spain & Portugal UBER and Kristi Progri, Representative of Mozilla, among many others. Representatives from Uber, BBVA, Accenture Digital and Amnesty International Spain complete the cast of national and international speakers who will give more than 200 lectures.

Innovation and technology will showcase the innovations, technological solutions and latest trends in the sector. As part of this congress, which will be held at La N@ve, the 2017 Open Awards will also be presented, which recognize the most up-to-date companies in the open technologies sector. On May 3 the names will be announced of the finalists of the Open Awards, which in its second edition has had the participation of 132 companies and projects in the sector.

Open Expo 2017 ofrece un área expositiva  -donde tienen cabida empresas de Business Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Clustering & Grid, CMS, proveedores en el ecosistema de código abierto, lo último en Seguridad empresarial, IOT, Network Management, Web Hosting- y otra congresual, donde tendrán lugar conferencias, talleres, casos de éxito, mesas redondas, demostraciones, experiencias y reflexiones de destacados responsables de tecnología y diversas actividades en torno al mundo de las tecnologías libres. 

En esta edición, Open Expo 2017 está orientado  a los nuevos retos del Open Source  y la Transformación Digital. Cómo la tecnología de código abierto ayuda a modernizar las diferentes áreas en las empresas y mostrar el camino hacia la transformación digital de los negocios es una de las apuestas de esta edición. Los datos abiertos y la modernización de las administraciones públicas a través de las TICs tienen también su espacio en este congreso. En concreto, Aleida Alcaide, Secretaría General de Administración Digital del Ministerio de Hacienda y Función Pública, hablará de la Iniciativa Aporta (datos.gob.es) en una ponencia en la que expondrá iniciativas pioneras para mejorar las políticas públicas y empoderar a los ciudadanos, usando soluciones libres y favoreciendo la reutilización de sus aplicaciones.

La organización de OpenExpo ha contado con el apoyo de Audrey Tang (@audreyt), la primera ministra digital del mundo que ha revolucionado el sector, y que apuesta decididamente  porque la red sea más colaborativa y por la transparencia del gobierno. En el marco de este evento, Tang ofreció hace varias semanas un webinar en el que impartió una presentación técnica sobre cómo se usa Sandstorm.io en el Gobierno de Taiwán, una solución web de código abierto para la productividad, basada en contenedores Linux.

Respecto a los ponentes más destacados, este año estarán presentes en Open Expo 2017 expertos como Chema Alonso, CDO de Telefónica; Javier García, IT Solutions Services director de RESPSOL; Maribel de La Vega, CIO de Liberty Seguros; Andrés Jiménez, CTO de PC Componentes, Yuri Fernández, Communications Lead Spain & Portugal de UBER o Kristi Progri, Representative de Mozilla, entre muchos otros. Representantes de Uber, BBVA, Accenture Digital y Amnistía Internacional España completan el cartel de ponentes nacionales e internacionales que impartirán más de 200 conferencias.

Innovación y tecnología mostrarán sus novedades, soluciones tecnológicas y las últimas tendencias del sector. En el marco de este congreso, que se celebra en La N@ve, tendrá lugar también la entrega de los premios Open Awards 2017, que reconocen a las empresas más punteras del sector de las tecnologías abiertas. El próximo 3 de mayo se darán a conocer los nombres de los finalistas de los Open Awards, que en su segunda edición ha contado con la participación de 132 empresas y proyectos del sector.
