OpenAIRE, working for open science in Europe

Fecha de la noticia: 09-05-2017

Funded by the European Commission, the OpenAIRE project is designed to foster open science in the EU in order to accelerate research and encourage open innovation in the Member States. Openaire is an initiative based on two pillars: on the one hand, the creation of a solid network of knowledge and, on the other, the construction of a digital infrastructure.

The OpenAIRE network explores needs, practices, incentives, workflows, data models, technologies and aspects related to access and manipulation of research datasets in combination with the publications themselves. In addition, it provides support to researchers to deposit research publications into the technological infrastructure created for this purpose.

Simultaneously, research is carried out in the project on aspectos legales relacionados con la ciencia abierta, implementación de las normativas de acceso abierto and marcos globales para enlazar conjuntos de datos y publicaciones. At the same time, pilot projects are carried out such as Datos abiertos en el marco Horizonte 2020 for the registration of research data and its location, access and subsequent reuse in the context of projects funded under Horizon 2020.

Furthermore, the OpenAIRE platform has been launched to make European research data more accessible, interoperable and reusable, offering a large number of publications and datasets, as well as monitoring tools for publications and open scientific data, in addition to other resources such as:

  • Tools for different stakeholders to understand the opportunities offered by open access to research
  • Tools for depositing publications funded by the European Commission
  • Online seminars and workshops on different topics related to open science
  • Servicio de asesoramiento a investigadores who deposit their research publications and for the managers of repositories

OpenAIRE thus represents a pan-European network, National Open Access Desks (NOAD), which brings together open science professionals from all EU countries, who work at national and international level to develop policies and assist researchers to adopt open science practices.
