Description

Climate, energy, food & agriculture, health, transport, security and social sciences are the seven societal challenges tracked by the EU framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon2020. In each of these fields, data play a growing role. Therefore, what is needed are innovative technologies and strategies for the potential of big data to address those societal needs. Under this framework, in 2014 Big Data Europe Project was launched, focussing on two main tasks:

  • Building a community which gathers stakeholders belonging to the seven identified sectors. To do this, the European project organizes workshops and webinars covering the whole process of data usage: collection, processing, storage, visualization and development of solutions.
  • Developing a big data platform that meets the requirements of users from the societal key sectors; enabling European companies to build companies and services which are semantically interoperable, large-scale and multilingual.

As the BDE enters its second year, an online free webinar is hold on 2 March (14.00 - 15.00 pm) and it presents the platform -under development- as well as inputs and presentations from experts responsible for the architecture, the implementation and the upcoming pilots roll-outs. In this first webinar, participants will learn about:

  1. The requirements we collected from the 7 Societal Challenges we are addressing;
  2. The technical building blocks of our Big Data Platform;
  3. How the above will be provided as a generic instance for customisation;
  4. An introduction to the 7 selected Pilot partners and the expected outcome.

Apart from learning about the technological pillars upon which the platform has been built, the audience will be given a chance to clarify all doubts with BDE technical team. Those interested in attending the free webinar shall fill out a web form.
