The Data Science Laboratory is a team of researchers and professors from different groups from various universities and research centers. Its main objective is to coordinate and promote research, education, innovation and knowledge transfer on data science and big data.

Main products and services:

The main activities of the Data Science Laboratory are:

- Education and training of students and professionals in data science and big data methods, technologies and best practices.

- Research and innovation projects, exploring the creation of new statistical and computational methods for scalable data mining, machine learning, optimization, as well as statistical modeling with complex data sets.

- Consulting and strategic advice for companies and organizations, willing to identify and integrate data science and big data technologies in their workflows, with special emphasis on performance, quality management and best practices.

Key to success:

The DSLAB covers all stages of a Data Science project. From the definition of the problem to the implementation of the solution. In this case, open data was available that was refined, modeled and visualized. Likewise, the results obtained were published in:

Training courses have been given at various public and private universities. The Master in Data Science that has been taught at the Rey Juan Carlos University since 2015 has been created. The “Ericsson on Applied Data Science to 5G” research chair has been created. More than 30 articles have been published in prestigious magazines and international conferences. Currently it is collaborating in the development of more than 10 doctoral theses within the DSLAB, several of which are included within Industrial Doctorates.

Future plans:

Distribution of a board game developed by the DSLAB on Data Science to attract pre-college youth to STEM careers.

Collaboration with private companies for the creation of the Observatory on Data Science and Engineering.

Summer courses on the future of Artificial Intelligence.

Data used:

The data published in the COVID-19 Panel comes from the individualized declaration of COVID-19 cases to the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network (RENAVE) through the SiViEs computer application. The data related to COVID-19 were extracted from the daily pdfs published by the Ministry of Health.
