There are many people who take advantage of the summer season to update their knowledge in a subject or enter new disciplines. Data science and artificial intelligence are generating increasing interest. The data economy sector generates 26,538 jobs in Spain, according to the report on the data economy in the infomediary field carried out by ASEDIE.

The growing demand for skills related to data and artificial intelligence is also reflected in the training offer of universities. The courses are aimed at both students and professionals interested in expanding knowledge, learning about new tools or exploring technologies that are driving digital transformation in areas such as health or public management.

Here are some examples. These are courses that combine theory and practice and allow you to discover the potential of data and artificial intelligence.

1. Public policies and digital transformation of cities and territories: a systemic vision based on data

Pablo de Olavide University

This course addresses the role of data in the transformation of cities and territories, as well as its contribution to the design of more efficient and sustainable public policies. Participants will discuss how data collection and analysis can support decision-making and support better planning of public services. The training is aimed at professionals from public administrations, policy makers, technicians and managers linked to territorial development, as well as researchers and people interested in governance and digital transformation strategies.

  • Date and place: June 25 and 26, 2026 in Carmona.

2. Data Analysis and Visualization: Practical Statistics with R and Artificial Intelligence

National University of Distance Education (UNED)

This seminar offers practical training in data analysis and visualization, two disciplines that play an increasingly important role in areas such as health, education, economics or computer science. The program addresses concepts of statistical inference and teaches how to work with the R language and the RStudio environment. In addition, participants will be able to explore the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence tools based on large language models, such as ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot, to facilitate tasks related to analysis and programming.

  • Date and place: from 8 to 10 July 2026 in online and face-to-face mode (in Plasencia).

3. Advanced Programming

Autonomous University of Barcelona

This program is aimed at students from different scientific and technological disciplines who already have basic knowledge of programming and wish to deepen their knowledge of this subject. With an eminently practical approach, the training will strengthen skills in structured programming and object-oriented programming using languages such as C, Java and Python. Throughout the course, participants will develop different projects, with the aim of putting into practice concepts such as dynamic memory management, data structures or the creation of object-based applications.

  • Date and place: from 13 to 30 July 2026. Location to be defined.

4. Introduction to Data Science and AI

University of Zaragoza

The University of Zaragoza celebrates the fourth edition of this course as a structured introduction to data science, which addresses its fundamental concepts, from the collection, cleaning and management of information, to its analysis, visualization and the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. The program also has a practical approach that allows participants to develop an AI project under the supervision of professionals. The course is aimed at university students of science and engineering, vocational training students linked to programming and professionals in the data and computer science sector.

  • Date and place: from 15 to 17 July 2026 in Jaca.

5. Data Visualization Tools: Power BI, ShinyApps and Tableau

Summer University of Teruel (University of Zaragoza)

Data visualization is a fundamental tool to transform information into useful knowledge and facilitate decision-making. This seminar provides an introduction to the principles of visual analytics and provides hands-on training on some of the most widely used platforms in this field, such as Power BI, Tableau, and ShinyApps. Participants will learn how to create interactive dashboards and develop applications for reproducible analysis, among other things. The training also addresses aspects related to the responsible use of data and is aimed at both professionals and researchers interested in improving their skills in visualization and analysis.

  • Date and place: from 20 to 23 July 2026 in Teruel.

6. Data visualization and analysis with R

University of Santiago de Compostela

The University of Santiago de Compostela organizes this course an introduction to the use of the R language for the treatment and statistical analysis of data. Throughout the different sessions, participants will acquire the necessary skills to perform descriptive and inferential analyses (estimation, contrasts and predictions). The training is aimed at students and professionals from different fields interested in incorporating statistical methods into data processing and provides resources that allow them to continue to delve autonomously into the possibilities of R.

  • Date and place: from 20 to 24 July 2026 in Santiago de Compostela.

7. Challenge in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence applied to social welfare by UNA-Europe

Complutense University of Madrid

The Complutense University of Madrid participates in this initiative promoted by the UNA-Europe university alliance, whose objective is to apply data and artificial intelligence techniques to address challenges related to social welfare. The training is mainly aimed at PhD students and early-career researchers from different disciplines interested in exploring the potential of AI from an ethical and responsible perspective. Over three days, participants will work on real cases and participate in collaborative activities inspired by formats such as hackathons, paying special attention to issues such as ethics, algorithmic biases and human rights.

  • Date and place: from 22 to 24 July 2026 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

8. Remote sensing from satellite. Digital Image Processing and Copernicus Applications

Summer University of Teruel (University of Zaragoza).

The data obtained by Earth observation satellites have increasingly relevant applications in areas such as climate change monitoring or land management. This course delves into the fundamentals of remote sensing and digital image processing techniques, using information from missions such as Landsat and the Sentinel satellites of the European Copernicus programme. The training combines theoretical content with practical exercises and allows you to explore applications related to desertification or the monitoring of land and sea surfaces, among others. In addition, participants will become familiar with some of the tools used for the processing and analysis of geospatial data.
