The open data working group in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) has as its main task identifying and sharing best practices that help OGP member governments alliance achieve their commitments with open data and develop more ambitious and innovative action plans.
With more than 200 members (including 80 governments and 120 civil organizations), and once the first phase based on four streams of work (principles, measurement, standards and training) has been completed, the group faces a new phase with a work plan completely renovated.
On the other hand, the implementation of the Open Data Charter on the basis of the previous work done by the group to define a set of common principles, has also been a significant change in the forthcoming goals of the group which will be focused from now on:
Reviewing of action plan, providing clear guidelines to those governments who want to receive an initial feedback on their commitments related to open data before publishing their action plans.
Learning networks designed to facilitate the exchange of information, knowledge, previous experiences, lessons and best practices among OGP countries.
Creating community, exploring new opportunities for collaboration within the alliance as with other potential partners abroad.
Dissemination, in order to increase participation in the group and improve the information available about their tasks and activities.
Implementation, developing resources to enable the adoption and implementation of new open data or improvement of current ones.
Among new products expected as result of all this activity, and added to those from the previous stage, should be highlighted:
- Guidelines to incorporate the principles of Open Data Charter in the action plans of governments.
- Launch of the first thematic learning network on open data.
- Organization of discussions, online and face-to-face, about new open data trends with the participation of experts in the field.
- New communication resources including an enhanced website, newsletters and specific queries.
- Participation in the development of the resource center of International Open Data Charter.
Moreover, the group is renewing positions, including general group facilitators as leaders for each working group, who will be in charge of carrying out this new action plan and keep open data as one of the main commitments of the OGP member governments.
