On March 2, will take place the presentation of the project 'Open Data and Women', promoted by the Valencian Observatory of Open Data and Transparency, as a result of the collaboration between the Department of Participation, Transparency, Cooperation and Democratic Quality of the Generalitat and the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The event has been organized by the professor of the University of Seville, Lorena R. Romero-Domínguez and the audiovisual technician of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Lucía García Robledo, with the support of Antonia Ferrer Sapena, director of the Observatory, and Eloína Coll Aliaga, director of the Càtedra de Governança de la Ciutat de València, and will take place in the Rectorate Auditorium at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

From the beginning, the aim of this project has been to focus on the role that different women in the professional sector play in the context of data and, in particular, open data. Thus, through a series of interviews, the selected professionals share the course of their careers, explain how they have grown professionally in the world of data and also how they have approached some of the most significant projects of their careers in this regard.

The interviews, which were recorded months ago, are available for viewing on the Observatory's YouTube channel, where we can see how each of the professionals interviewed reflects on the most important challenges facing the sector, paying special attention to the inclusion of the gender perspective in data.

Presentation of the project and round table with some of the protagonists

The presentation session on March 2 will be attended by Andrés Gomis, General Director of Transparency, Citizen Services and Good Governance of the Department of Participation, Transparency, Cooperation and Democratic Quality of the Generalitat Valenciana and Elisa Valía, Deputy Mayor for Participation, Rights and Innovation of Democracy. Councilor for Transparency and Open Government of the City Council of Valencia.

In addition, there will also be a round table on data with a gender perspective that will be moderated by Carmen Montalbá, professor at the University of Valencia, with the participation of the following professionals whose interviews are part of the project:

  • Lorena R. Romero, professor at the University of Seville and author of the project.
  • Ana Tudela, Co-founder of Datadista and member of the Oxford Climate Journalism Network.
  • Silvia Rueda, Territorial Director of the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society.
  • Along with the previous speakers who will be present at the roundtable, the project 'Open Data and Women' also includes interviews with Lourdes Muñoz Santamaría, Founder and Director of the Barcelona Open Data Initiative; Laura Castro, Data Visualization Designer at Affective Advisory; Zynnia del Villar, Director of Data Science Research at Data-Pop Alliance; Thais Ruiz de Alda, Founder and CEO of Digital Fems. Tech Advisor&Consultant Digital Business; Sonia Castro-García Muñoz, Coordinator of datos.gob.es (Red.es); Ana Tudela, Co-Founder of Datadista and Eva Méndez Rodríguez, Professor and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Science Policy at Carlos III University.
  • In short, 'Open Data and Women' is a project that arises from the need to encourage a debate on the incorporation of the gender perspective in data, a priority practice to establish public policies that are efficient to combat the inequalities that arise between men and women.

Precisely for this reason, the interviews offer a wide range of views on the role of data in different professional fields, including data journalism, the scientific-technological field, the administrative field and international organizations, among others.

Finally, those interested in attending the presentation of the project in person must register in advance on this form and, once their attendance has been confirmed, go to the Rector's Hall of the UPV, in the 3rd building.
