Balance 2020

During 2020, in the Aporta Initiative we have continued working to promote the opening and reuse of the information offered by public administrations through various actions such as:

New guides, focused on improving the quality of published data (guides for the publication of data in CSV, using APIs or spatial data), promoting its reuse as a basis for services and products linked to disruptive technologies (such as artificial intelligence or Natural Language Processing), and launch new data-driven businesses.

New edition of the Aporta 2020 Challenge, this year focused on rewarding ideas and prototypes that use open data to solve challenges in the educational field. The jury is currently evaluating the applications received. During the first months of 2021 we will know the finalist proposals.

Echoing the impact of open data on the economy and society, with 35 new applications, 15 new reuse companies and nearly 100 published articles, including news, events, interviews and entries in the innovation blog.

All these actions, together with the interest of users and publishers, have driven the growth of datos.gob.es for yet another year. We have received more than a million visits, 34.5% more than in 2019. The catalog data sets have grown by 10.6%, exceeding 28,500 and almost 250 inquiries from agencies have been attended.

In social networks, growth has also been countable with 16,000 followers on Twitter (7.5% compared to the previous year) and more than 3,450 followers in our LinkedIn community.

In addition, the year has ended with very good news: Spain has increased its score and remains among the leaders of Open Data in Europe, according to the Open Data Maturity Report 2020.

In such a difficult year, we can only thank the entire open data community for continuing to support our initiative.
